Scorecards... And Why Your Business Needs One Now!

Adam Fox • 17 June 2021

What’s the score in your business?

Most business owners have no idea how their businesses are performing beyond their bank balance.
It’s so important to understand the numbers that dictate the success of your business. If you rely solely on your bank balance, by the time you know there is a problem, it’s too late.

Imagine watching a football match where nobody was keeping the score, nobody was watching the time played, nobody was keeping tabs on how many players were on the pitch.

It would be chaos!

Not only that but it could go on forever.

Would you as a spectator be interested in watching a game where there was no winner or loser, and nobody had a clue what was going on?

Of course you wouldn’t!

So why is it that so many business owners run their businesses in this chaotic way?

It’s because nobody teaches them when they are completing their apprenticeships, or their technical training, how to run a business.

I’m here to change that.

I am making it my mission to educate and teach business owners like you, the things you need to do to ensure the long-term survival and ultimate success for your business.

So, how do you develop a scorecard for your business?

Start small, pick a handful of numbers that will tell you how your business is performing.

The simpler you keep the scorecard, the more likely it is that you will stick to it.

I’d chose 5 or 6 numbers that if you were given week in week out would tell you if everything was OK, or if you had a potential problem.

Some ideas of the number you should keep a measure of and I’d seriously recommend having n your scorecard include:

1) How many leads have you had today?

2) How many of those leads turned into clients?

3) How much did it cost you to get those leads/clients?

4) How much was your average sale worth today?

Don’t go mad with it, I’ve seen companies that measure more than 50 numbers on a daily basis within their business. They were good at it but it took them years to build up to that level of detail. Keep it simple, pick around 6 numbers and monitor them daily or as a minimum weekly.

If you do this and make it stick. It will transform your business!

If you’d like some help developing a scorecard that will help you better understand what’s going on within your business give me a shout.

Until next time

Bye for now.
