WHY I’M NOT YOUR TYPICAL BUSINESS COACH (AND WHY THAT MATTERS)

Most business coaches will start by looking at your business.

  • Your numbers.
  • Your systems.
  • Your strategy.
  • Your team.

That makes sense on the surface.

But it’s not where I start.

Because after more than two decades in business—building, running, scaling, breaking, and rebuilding—I’ve learned something most people don’t want to admit:

Your business isn’t the thing that’s holding you back.

The way you operate inside it is.

I didn’t learn this from a course

I didn’t wake up one day and decide to become a coach.

I built my experience the long way.

Paper round at 12.

Working because I wanted to earn, not because it was trendy.

Growing up around business stress, where doing everything right still didn’t guarantee you’d be paid.

I learned early that:

  • Work isn’t optional
  • Responsibility comes fast
  • And the world doesn’t always play fair

That never left me.

Then I stepped into the real world of business

I didn’t just “start a business”.

I worked my way up.

I led.

I carried responsibility.

I helped grow a business from £1.5 million to £8.5 million in five years.

Eventually, I became Managing Director.

On paper, everything looked like success.

Behind the scenes?

It was relentless.

  • 6am to 6pm days
  • Constant pressure
  • No off switch
  • Expected to be available at all times

Even on holiday.

Even when my daughters were born.

Especially when my daughters were born.

The part most people don’t see

You can be successful…

And still feel completely trapped.

I was doing everything I’d been told to do:

  • Work harder
  • Take responsibility
  • Push through
  • Keep going

And it was working.

Until it wasn’t.

Because no one tells you this:

The behaviours that build your business in the early stages are the same behaviours that will trap you later on.

The breaking point

At some point, it stops being sustainable.

You’re carrying everything.

Making every decision.

Solving every problem.

Being the one everyone relies on.

And there’s no room left.

Not for growth.

Not for thinking.

Not for your family.

Not for you.

I stayed in that environment longer than I should have.

Fifteen months longer, if I’m being honest.

Holding on to promises that never materialised.

By the time I left, there was no big payout.

No clean ending.

Just the realisation that I’d allowed myself to become trapped in something I no longer controlled.

That’s where everything changed

Not because I found a better strategy.

Because I was forced to change how I operated.

I started studying:

  • Behaviour
  • Decision-making
  • Productivity
  • Attention

Not to build a business.

To survive the one I was already in.

What I realised changed everything

You don’t have a time problem.

You don’t have a discipline problem.

You have an attention problem.

If your attention is constantly being pulled in the wrong direction…

  • You make poor decisions
  • You stay reactive
  • You avoid the work that actually matters
  • You stay stuck

No system fixes that.

No strategy overrides it.

This is what I see now, over and over again

When business owners come to me, the pattern is almost identical.

They’ve grown.

They’ve done well.

But they’ve hit a ceiling.

And they can’t break through it.

Not because the business isn’t capable of growing.

Because they’ve become the limiting factor.

What that actually looks like

They’re:

  • Doing everything themselves
  • Stuck in constant firefighting
  • Too busy to think strategically
  • Avoiding decisions they know need to be made

They tell themselves:

  • “I just need more leads”
  • “I need better systems”
  • “I need more time”

But the reality is simpler.

They’ve built a business that relies on them.

And now it can’t grow beyond them.

This is where I’m different

I’m not just a coach.

And I’m not just a consultant.

I sit somewhere in the middle.

Because I’ve seen what good coaching actually looks like.

I’ve worked with excellent coaches.

And here’s the truth:

Sometimes you need questions.

Sometimes you need direction.

Sometimes you need someone to tell you what’s actually going on.

I do all three.

I won’t just ask you questions while you stay stuck

If you want someone to sit back and let you “figure it out” on your own…

I’m not your guy.

If you want someone to:

Tell you where you’re going wrong

Help you make better decisions

Use real experience to shortcut years of trial and error

Then we’ll get on well.

The first shift I create

When things start to change, it’s not because we’ve built a better plan.

It’s because you finally see this:

You are the bottleneck.

That’s not an insult.

It’s a breakthrough.

Because once you see it…

You can fix it.

Then we change how you operate

You stop living in the doing.

You start working on the business, not just in it.

You stop chasing quick wins.

You start playing the long game.

The £10 / £100 / £1,000 shift

Most business owners spend their time in the wrong place.

I break it down simply:

  • £10 an hour tasks
  • £100 an hour tasks
  • £1,000 an hour tasks

If you’re stuck…

You’re spending too much time in the first two.

We change that.

Why some clients fly and others stall

I see two types of people.

The first:

  • Take ownership
  • Take responsibility
  • Do what they say they’re going to do

They move quickly.

The second:

Make excuses

Blame external factors

Avoid uncomfortable decisions

Stay in denial about being the problem

They move slower.

Not because they’re not capable.

Because they’re getting in their own way.

The uncomfortable truth most people need to hear

Most business owners are chasing growth for the sake of growth.

Because that’s what they’ve been told to do.

Build bigger. Scale up. Push harder.

But they’ve never stopped to ask:

“Why am I building this?”

So they end up with:

  • Bigger businesses
  • More pressure
  • Less freedom
  • And something they don’t even enjoy anymore

I’m not here to help you build something you’ll hate

I’m here to help you build something that:

  • Works commercially
  • Works operationally
  • And actually works for your life

Because if the end result is:

  • More stress
  • More hours
  • Less control

That’s not success.

Don’t work with me if…

  • You want quick wins without changing anything
  • You’re not willing to take responsibility
  • You want someone to fix everything for you
  • You think the problem is always external

You won’t enjoy it.

And neither will I.

Work with me if…

  • You’ve hit a ceiling and know it
  • You’re tired of being the bottleneck
  • You want to build something that doesn’t rely on you
  • You’re ready to actually change how you operate

Final thought

There’s nothing wrong with strategy.

Nothing wrong with systems.

Nothing wrong with growth.

But if you ignore the person driving it all…

You’ll always end up back in the same place.

Busy.

Stretched.

And stuck.

If this has landed…

You already know what the next step is.
